What this is
Every mine, quarry, sand pit and mineral plant in the United States has a seven-digit ID at the Mine Safety and Health Administration. The agency publishes five separate files about them. This site joins the five on the mine ID, for the mines that are not abandoned: status, commodity, operator, quarterly employment and hours, and the inspections, citations and accident reports of the last two years.
Who uses it
- Suppliers and contractors — the operating mines and quarries of a county or a commodity.
- Buyers of aggregates — who operates this quarry, and is it active?
- Operators — your own record as MSHA publishes it.
What it is not
Not MSHA. Inspections, citations and accident reports are shown as counts over a dated window, not as a rating: this site ranks no mine. The controller of a mine is not shown: the file may name a person. Sole proprietors are on no list.
